About Bristol Gaming Market

Replay Events, the company behind the PLAY Expo retro shows and a number of other gaming events around the UK approached AMBITIOUS to support with their market entry and to provide event marketing support for the South West’s first ever gaming market.

Aimed at retro video game collectors, board game fanatics and fans of gaming from past to present, the Bristol Gaming Market took place at The Passenger Shed in June 2017, with hundreds of tables of video games, tabletop games and merchandise for sale. Items ranged from classic video games, consoles and import games, to board games, game-inspired clothing, magazines, retro toys and custom-made artwork.

The challenge

Replay Events had a limited budget and a tight time frame to launch their first ever gaming market in the South West, so appointed AMBITIOUS to help them develop an event marketing toolkit to focus on creating engagement quickly in the market.

The solution

AMBITIOUS developed a toolkit which included:

  • Event call to action suitable for ‘what’s on’ pages of local consumer news and lifestyle media (on and offline)
  • Press release detailing the event for local consumer media
  • Pitch points developed with a business media angle that focused on the fact that a national event was launching in Bristol as part of a footprint of growth for Replay
  • Sourcing of local gaming bloggers, influencers, influencer channels and meet up group admins to secure advance support for event via their communication channels e.g. blog, social media

The results

The event exceeded attendance expectations and each metric for media coverage and influencer support was topped.

The Bristol Gaming Market is now a regular fixture on the Bristol events calendar and more information about what’s planned for the future can be found on the Bristol Gaming Market website.
