Businesses committing to market entry in Bristol during the pandemic

At AMBITIOUS, it’s no secret that we love a launch project, from hotels to coworking spaces. But right now, it’s hard to imagine a host of new openings happening across the city and indeed the rest of the country. However, AMBITIOUS has been working with a number of businesses that are bucking the trend as they look to set up shop and establish themselves in the city, as well as helping other local businesses along the way.

Saying Yuup to Bristol

Yuup is the new online marketplace where you can book and gift experiences in Bristol. It’s forecast to inject £1.1 million into the local economy and create 125 jobs in its first year, with the aim of helping local businesses and individuals with a talent or an idea to create new opportunities, find customers, and unlock new means for sustainable income.

Yuup launched back in September with 100 experiences to book or gift, ranging from creating ceramics in Southville to learning to cook Thai food in Totterdown, and it aims to have 500 experiences live within the next 12 months.

Yuup also takes the Bristol circular economy very seriously, and all parties involved in bringing Yuup to market are based in the city. AMBITIOUS is obviously no exception, and the launch of Yuup has got off to a flying start with an extensive integrated influencer and media relations campaign, where coverage gained so far includes Bristol Life, The Bristol Post and Bristol 24/7, to name just a few.

D&D London comes to town; Helping one of the UK’s biggest restaurant brands gain a foothold in uncertain times

Last month, D&D London launched its first venture in the South West, under the shadow of further restrictions facing hospitality businesses across the country.

Named Klosterhaus, the restaurant is located in Quakers Friars in Cabot Circus, on the site formally occupied by Brasserie Blanc. At around 18,000 sq feet, it’s a substantial premises, which includes a large terrace and events space, in addition to the main restaurant itself.

D&D has restaurants in 43 locations, including London, Paris and New York. Klosterhaus is looking to fill a gap in the Bristol market, with a luxurious restaurant in the heart of the city’s shopping quarter, and an events space suitable for corporate parties and weddings with unrivalled quality of service.

Despite the devastating effect the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the hospitality sector, the restaurant is honouring its commitment to the city, and has been greatly received.

With a broad-ranging menu, featuring some Mittel-European classics and German favourites, Klosterhaus is supporting local suppliers in sourcing their produce, such as beef from Meat Box, sourdough bread from Coombeshead Farm Bakery and all fish from Wing of St Mawes.

‘Glamourous yet accessible to all’, Klosterhaus aims to be a flagship restaurant for Bristol city centre. AMIBITIOUS worked with D&D on an extensive influencer, stakeholder and media relations campaign to support the launch, whilst successfully and safely navigating the restrictions in place due to the pandemic. 

Rather than a large-scale launch event, as per the original brief at the beginning of the year, the campaign was pivoted substantially in order to cater for a whole series of smaller socially distanced gatherings for media and influencers.

In addition, AMBITIOUS targeted events organisers and the MICE community to promote Klosterhaus as a leading events space launching in the region. AMBITIOUS also launched a major stakeholder campaign in the form of an ambassadorship programme, to help engage Bristol’s senior business leaders in the opening phase.
