Beyond the Certification: How to Communicate Your B Lab Assessment Data
Last updated on March 18th, 2026 at 12:04 pm
Becoming a B Corp is a milestone worth celebrating.
It represents months (sometimes years!) of reflection, assessment, and action. But certification isn’t the finish line; it’s the starting point for telling a powerful story about your organisation’s impact.
Too often, the rich data from the B Impact Assessment (BIA) remains hidden behind a login screen, when in reality, it can fuel compelling marketing, PR, and stakeholder communications.
If you’ve invested in becoming a B Corp, your audience should feel that impact too. Here’s how to bring your newly certified status, and the data behind it, to life.
1. Launching Your B Corp Badge with Intent
The moment you become a B Corp is a golden PR opportunity, so make it count. Simply updating your LinkedIn bio undersells the significance of the achievement. This is your chance to launch with energy, creativity, and clarity.
B Corp certification is a form of trusted third-party verification. Like the Fairtrade mark, that circular “B” instantly signals credibility to clients and customers. Treat it as the newsworthy moment it is: draft a press release, share your story, and announce it loudly.
B Lab’s own launch guidance is extremely helpful, but consider how you can personalise it. Could your brand create a simple stunt or visual moment? At AMBITIOUS, we switched our signature “A” to a “B” for a week as a stunt, what could be your version of that?
This is also the time to embed the badge across your ecosystem:
- Update your website “About” page, footer, and product or service pages.
- Refresh social media bios.
- Add the logo to email signatures, proposals, and pitch decks.
- Publish your official B Corp profile, fulfilling the transparency requirement.
For inspiration, Bristol’s Boardwalk Property Co. is a standout example of integrated B Corp branding.
2. Turn Your B Corp Data into Marketing Gold
One of the biggest strengths of the B Corp process is its rigorous, verified data. Once your application has been through the wringer and B Lab has signed it off, you can share it as evidence.
- Start by identifying your top five data points; the ones that are concrete, compelling, and central to your story as a brand.
- Then weave them into your content rhythm: website copy, social posts, explainer videos, pitches, brochures, tenders.
- Present them visually when you can: icons, bold stats, or simple charts help make metrics instantly digestible.
Benchmarks are especially powerful to enhance your data. For example, spotlight where your score sits relative to your sector or to the broader B Corp community: “Our score of XX places us in the top 10% of companies for [your specialist area]”.
Now you’re a part of the B Corp cohort, you can use B Corp’s data to tell a narrative about your company. For example: “Did you know, since 2022, UK B Corps have saved over 20 billion litres of water, equivalent to over a week of the UK’s non-household water use. We’re proud to be part of this by reducing our water use through XX.”
Most companies also find that the assessment process crystallises their “why”. By pairing purpose-driven messaging with verified data points, you give audiences both emotional and rational reasons to buy in.
3. Amplify Your Annual Impact Report
Every year, B Corps must publish an impact report. Instead of viewing it as a compliance exercise, treat it as a chance to tell your brand story.
Lead with numbers, land with stories
Metrics draw readers in, but stories create connection. If you’ve reduced carbon emissions by X%, explain how you achieved it. If your employee engagement score has climbed, include a quote from a team member about what’s changed. Data proves your impact is real; stories make people care.
Tailor to your audience
Different stakeholders value different aspects of your B Corp status:
- Consumers want to understand the realworld impact on people and planet.
- Investors look for governance strength and longterm resilience, and B Corps consistently outperform peers on growth indicators.
- Prospective employees want insight into culture, benefits, and values—your “Workers” section is full of material for this.
Make it accessible, not academic
Those in the B Corp community love to use B Corp lingo, but this doesn’t work for everyone.
Translate B Lab terminology into plain English, and follow their tone guidance: humility over selfcongratulation, progress over perfection. Saying “we’re part of a community committed to continual improvement” lands far better than “we’re the most ethical business in our sector.”
Done well, your impact report becomes a versatile asset: media-friendly, investor-friendly, recruiting-friendly, and inherently shareable.
4. Why Communicating Your B Corp Data Matters
When PR and marketing teams elevate B Corp data, it can materially strengthen brand reputation. Verified impact builds trust. Humble transparency creates affinity. And being part of a global movement of businesses acting as a force for good resonates deeply with modern audiences.
2024 research shows that 86% of adults familiar with B Corps report some, a lot or very high levels of trust in the certification; trust influences buying, partnering, and recommending.
So don’t let your assessment data gather dust. Get it into the world: in the press, on social, in sales decks, at events, in recruitment materials, and across your leadership communications.
Whether you’re a tech company humanising its platform, a real estate firm strengthening community ties, a consultancy proving accountability, or a brand building purpose into every interaction, your B Corp data can be a PR and marketing amplifier.
