5 things we’re looking forward to in May – #SMWONE special

While many events have been postponed or cancelled, there’s still one large conference we’re glad is going ahead…#SMWONE! Social Media Week One is a four-week virtual conference taking place from May 5th-28th that will feature over 100 hours of live streamed sessions, 300 speakers, and more than 10,000 registered participants.

As organisers of SMW Bristol, Team AMBITIOUS have bagged passes and will be tuning in with our clients to learn from experts all over the globe. Here are five things that we’re looking forward to in May…

I’m excited to hear from Harris Beber, the CEO of Vimeo, in his session: ‘Little Resources, Big Results: How to Make an Impact with Video’. Video has become really important for many of our clients this past two months, playing a critical role in communications. This talk promises that I’ll be taking away ‘how to adapt your content to today’s short attention spans to maximise their effectiveness, how to craft your strategy for telling your story through video and how to measure the impact of your video content’.

One speaker I’ll be watching from the #SMWONE line-up is Sam Olstein, Executive Director of Corporate Marketing at GE. His talk is: ‘Are Employees the New Influencers?’. Employees can be brilliant brand ambassadors. We offer an employee advocacy social media training workshop so it will be interesting to hear some new ideas on the topic and see if there’s anything new we can implement into our own planning.

I’m looking forward to the session ‘The State of Social in 2020’ with Steven Bartlett, the CEO of Social Chain. Steven will be discussing where he sees the ever-changing social media landscape heading in 2020, which is incredibly relevant right now considering so many of the trends we expected at the beginning of the year might have now pivoted.

A session that really stood out to me from the #SMWONE agenda is the session titled ‘Embracing Unexpected Storytelling’ with Head of Twitter’s US Creator Content Solutions, Leah Feygin, and Heather Phenix, Executive Producer from Jam3. The speakers will discuss combining creativity and technology to drive meaningful engagement, which I think is going to be a hot topic in the months to come as many businesses will need to adapt their content strategies.

While I’m not attending any SMW events next month, I am looking forward to a webinar that the CIPR is running – ‘Reviewing your Crisis Communications Plan‘ on 20th May. We help a number of clients with their issues and reputation management and it will be fascinating to see this played through the lens of the COVID 19 crisis. We will still be able to ‘plan’ in the same way? Or will it be more about the process businesses have in place to guide them when a crisis hits.
