5 THINGS WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO IN OCTOBER

With summer long gone and Christmas still a way off, Autumn is a great time to do the things that interest us. Perhaps for that reason, October is always a fantastic month for events – and this month, there are some real corkers in Bristol.

Whether it’s business or pleasure, here’s a round-up of what team AMBITIOUS will be up to this month  …

I am really looking forward to my day representing team AMBITIOUS at the annual Festival of Female Entrepreneurs on October 19th in Bristol. It’s such a great event where I usually catch up with so many women we know from the business community and in its seventh year it’s become a firm favourite of mine in the South West business calendar.

This year there’s a keynote from Emma Bridgewater about how she found worldwide success with her ceramic and homeware business. As well as a panel about raising funds for your business, which includes AMBITIOUS client ICAEW, a session about the highs and lows of running a successful family business and the winner of the Enterprise Nation 2018 Female start-up of the year will also be announced.

I’m excited to be supporting the Freedom of Mind festival, kicking off this Friday, October 5th. The Bristol week-long festival aims to raise awareness, educate and change perceptions around mental health to make it accessible for everyone.

Talking about mental health doesn’t have to be doom and gloom – I will be attending a morning silent disco in Castle Park to celebrate World Mental Health Day.

One of my all-time favourite Bristol events, Wildlife Photographer of the Year kicks off on October 20th at M Shed.

For me, Wildlife Photographer of the Year means autumn and winter are most definitely on their way. Awesome animal portraits and stunning photography from professionals and amateurs alike from all corners of the world. The competition launched in 1965 with 361 entries; today it attracts an incredible 50,000 entries from 96 counties.

I’m really excited to be going to a film event at the Watershed, entitled Going Full Cage: Exploring the enigma of Nicolas Cage. A must-do for any aspiring film buff, the panel event will debate the curious career and big screen allure of one of Hollywood’s most unconventional A-listers.

We’ve all seen a Nicolas Cage film at some point, yet few actors have had such a varied career that’s included some of the best and worst films in history. As fascinating as he is baffling, who is this enigmatic man? Is he utterly brilliant – in on the joke – or is he an overrated actor taking whatever pay check comes his way? I hope to find out.

I’ll be attending Bristol Life Business Club on October 16th and listening to Peter Haigh from Bristol Energy talk. I’m looking forward to hearing his views on what it’s like to run a business for social good in a heavily regulated, highly competitive market. It’s in Bristol’s Avon Gorge Hotel, so I’m also keen to see the views of the Clifton Suspension Bridge from a new perspective.

As a Bristol PR agency we are spoilt for choice every month. Are you planning to go along to any of these events – or are you looking forward to something we’ve missed? Let us know in the comments below, or connect with us on Twitter @Ambitiouspr.
