Support Builds For Women Outside The Box: Two Weeks To Go!

Now just two weeks away (Monday 7th October), support is building for Women Outside The Box, the South West’s celebrated festival of female entrepreneurship, with both Bristol Mayor George Ferguson and Business Minister Michael Fallon pledging their support.

Being headlined by Julie Meyer MBE, one of Europe’s most influential entrepreneurs, with a ‘She Who Dares’ theme, the inaugural event attracted over 700 women last year. The business exhibition and market areas are free to enter and, with an international speaker line up and 18 ‘how to’ workshops, interest from visitors and the business community is high.

Commenting on the importance of the festival for women from Bristol and across the South West, Mayor of Bristol George Ferguson, said;

“I am delighted that Women Outside The Box are again celebrating the many female business owners who are helping to shape the future success of Bristol’s economy. The fact that over 700 people turned out on a wet and windy October day last year to a new event to celebrate female entrepreneurship shows that there is a huge demand from women across the South West for this type of support.

“Women Outside The Box plays a crucial role in helping women from Bristol and the surrounding areas realise their potential as successful business women. And gives them the positive encouragement and recognition they deserve when starting up on their own.

“Like the rest of the country, small and medium-sized enterprises make up the majority of businesses in the South West, so supporting female lead start-ups is of real importance. Women make a vital contribution to the region’s commercial success in terms of job creation and sustaining our economy. I am sorry not to be with you this time.”

Adding his support, Business Minister Michael Fallon said;

“More and more women are turning their business ideas into reality and becoming their own boss. It’s even more encouraging that Government schemes such as Start-Up Loans have reached out to female entrepreneurs, with around 40% of loans now  going to women.

“Events like ‘Women Outside The Box’ support the government’s drive to build a culture of enterprise and I hope this will inspire even more budding female entrepreneurs to realise their dream of starting and running their own business.”

Headline speaker Julie Meyer MBE, one of Europe’s most influential entrepreneurs, will be joined by Bristol business big-hitters Sue Tugman and Janis Sinton.  Geeta Sidhu Robb, Louise Presley Turner and Susan Hayes complete the keynotes.

Meyer will set the tone for the day with her talk on ‘Making that first Million’.  The day’s talks and workshops are all designed to encourage women to think big and be ambitious when it comes to running their own businesses.

As well as the opportunity to hear from some of the most successful women in business in the UK today, visitors will be able to attend workshops on a diverse range of topics including setting up a publication, how to start an online shop, getting crowd-funded and running an ethical business.

Women who attend will also have the opportunity to network, make contacts, buy from the market, meet suppliers and chill out in the pamper area. A first for Women Outside The Box in 2013, there will also be a ‘Net-walk’ around the quayside where women can walk and enjoy the fresh air and talk business at the same time.

Event sponsors at Gold level include Bristol Solicitors Gregg Latchams LLP and email marketing specialists EssentiaMail with the Institute of Directors partnering at the Opening.  Skylark Media Group, film-makers, are Silver sponsors. Bronze sponsors include SME accounting software provider FreeAgent, pamper experts, The Beauty Event and BrunelOne.com who launch an SME print service this autumn. Bronze, Silver and Gold packages are available to suit all budgets.
